How to Use Facial Oil in Your Skincare Routine

If you’ve ever held a bottle of facial oil over your bathroom sink and thought, okay… but when exactly does this go on? – you’re in good company.

It’s probably the question we get most about Babyface, our best-selling Vitamin C facial oil. Luckily, the answer is pretty simple.

So… does facial oil go before or after moisturizer?

Usually, after.

If you’re layering Babyface with serums and moisturizer, think of it as the soft little finishing step at the end of your routine. Apply your water-based products first, then press a few drops of Babyface over everything.

But Babyface doesn’t need a moisturizer underneath it.

It also works beautifully as your standalone moisturizing step. Just apply straight onto freshly cleansed skin or after toner. So if you like to keep things simple, cleanse, tone if you use one, press in a few drops, and you’re done.

Your Babyface routine

There’s really no wrong way to make it a ritual, but this is our favorite:

1. Start fresh. Cleanse your face, but don’t worry about getting your skin completely dry. Babyface loves a little dampness. In fact, we don't recommend it another way.

2. Use 3–5 drops. Dispense them into your palm and warm the oil between your hands for a second.

3. Press it in. Gently press Babyface over your face and neck rather than aggressively rubbing it around. Take your time. This is the nice part.

4. Whatever’s left goes somewhere else. Collarbone, chest, cuticles, the backs of your hands — no drop left behind.

5. Morning, night, or both. Use it whenever your skin feels like it could use a little extra softness.

A tiny makeup trick we love

Before foundation or skin tint, mix in one drop of Babyface.

It gives makeup a softer, more skin-like finish and adds just enough glow without making you look like you dipped your face in oil. Especially nice when your foundation is feeling a little too matte or your skin is extra dry.

A few things worth knowing

Patch test first. Skin can be particular. Whenever you’re introducing something new, we recommend trying a small area first.

Keep the dropper off your skin. Try not to touch the dropper directly to your face or hands. Dispense the oil into your palm first to help keep the bottle clean and fresh.

Keep it somewhere cool and dark. Your sunny bathroom windowsill is cute, but Babyface would rather live in the cabinet. For best freshness, use within one year of opening.

A little goes a long way. With only a few drops per use, one bottle typically lasts around 3–6 months depending on whether you're applying it once or twice a day.
