The Art of Cold Process Soapmaking
a hands-on workshop

Spend a slow, intentional morning learning the art of traditional soapmaking from scratch.

When: Saturday, March 28th, 10am-1pm
Where: Say When – 1859 W Adams Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90018

In this 3-hour immersive workshop, you’ll create your own 20oz loaf of cold process soap (approximately 4-5 full-size bars) using a nourishing plant-based recipe. You'll mix and blend nourishing melted oils and butters with lye before customizing your unique design. This is real soapmaking – the same method used for centuries – thoughtfully adapted for beginners.

You’ll customize your loaf with:

  • A curated selection of premium fragrance and essential oils to blend your own custom scent
  • Mineral micas and natural clays for soft, earthy tones or more vibrant color
  • Dried botanicals for texture and detail
  • A guided two-color in-the-pot swirl technique, creating organic movement throughout the bar
  • The option to texture or smooth the top for a clean or organic finish

This is not melt-and-pour soapmaking (melting down pre-made soap bases). You’ll be working with raw oils and lye under guided supervision to create soap from scratch.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn what sets cold process soap apart, how to work safely and confidently with lye, and how to guide your batter from blending to pouring with control. You’ll leave with a printed recipe and step-by-step guide – and the confidence to make soap from scratch on your own.

Your loaf will be professionally cut into 4-5 full-size bars and shipped approximately 2 weeks after class to allow for initial curing (U.S. shipping included). Full cure takes approximately 4 weeks, part of the beauty of this slow craft. You may also choose to pick up your loaf after a week.

This workshop is limited to 8 guests to ensure an intimate, hands-on experience with personalized guidance throughout.

All materials, tools, and safety equipment are provided.

Please note: This workshop uses plant oils and fragrance materials. If you have known skin sensitivities or allergies, please reach out in advance so we can advise accordingly.
